Piper

Stupid heels. How I hate thee. That was all I could think of as I made my over to the Civic Center to go the stupid Winter Ball that I somehow got nominated to be queen for. Of course it would be rude not to show up, but since when the hell did people even know who the hell I was? Well, I assumed there wasn't anything I could do now, because I was already here, and I really had to show up. I already knew that Paisley Lennox was gonna win, and if she didn't and I happened to, I'd gladly get down and give her the damn crown. I didn't want it. I just wanted to spend a nice quiet night at camp.

The Civic Center was all nice and shit, it looked like a real dance that a normal place would have. Well, that was fun but I thought that it was time that I go home. This place suuuucked, and I didn't want to be here. What part of that wasn't obvious? Apparently the people of the camp sucked as well. Well, at least they did tonight. Usually I loved everyone in the camp, but today was an exception.

Whoever said that heels were a girls best friend, minus diamonds, was fucking on glue. I couldn't stand heels. They were already killing my feet, and I hadn't even been here that long. Sure, they make you taller? Big woop. I could do that by standing on a stool too. Or better yet, why can't girls just like their height? Were they that shallow that being tall was necessary? In my mind, it wasn't needed at all.

Making my way over to a table to sit down, I gladly sat myself down. I did like my dress, don't get me wrong, but I didn't want to be standing all night, so I better grab myself a seat first before they're all gone.

"Stupid ties. I hope you die in a fire." I muttered to myself as I stood all alone way in the back. I rolled my eyes at the stupidity of the people that were actually enjoying this waste of time. Don't you guys have something better to do, rather than trying to get it up by grinding on people you didn't show up here with? It was truly disgusting.

So why am I here? Same reason as these people. I have nothing better to do. Right now, I'm supposed to be back at the infirmary at camp, resting. I was supposed to stay there for a couple of more days according to Piper. Speaking of her, I hear that she was nominated for Snow Queen. Can't say I was surprised, I mean, she seems like queen material. She's demanding, smart, and she makes people listen to her. But I guess when it comes to these dances, that's not how the Queens are chosen by.

So I'm standing there, adjusting my tie. It was almost literally choking me, and I could hardly breathe. Maybe it's because of the lack of oxygen supplied since everyone is breathing heavily, or maybe it's because I'm not really supposed to be up and at 'em just yet. Like I said; camp, infirmary, resting. Does it add up yet?

Then, I saw her. Piper, I mean. She was sitting down at an empty table all by herself. And I had half a mind to go over and say hi. You know, make conversation and such. But then again, she might start ranting on about how I'm not supposed to be here. But look at that pregnant chick from across the Plaza. I bet she's not supposed to be here either, but now she's talking to that one guy with the ridiculous haircut.

Fuck it, I thought to myself. I walked over from the back to the chair next to her. "You look nice."

It was really tempting to just skip out now and leave. I wasn't going to win, so what was the point in even coming here? There wasn't one. I mean, sure I had to be there when they announced the winner, but other than that there was honestly no reason I had to be here. I could be back at the cabin, doing something useful. Or at the infirmary, making sure that Silas was still there, resting, even though I wasn't on duty anymore. The other nurse could underestimate him, after all.

The scent of sweat and lust filled the room, and I could barely breathe. It smelled horrid, and I wondered how people could possibly stand to act the way they were in public. It was rude and gross in my opinion. You want to grind? Do that in a hotel room for crying out loud. I didn't want to see that in my cabin either. The girls here had no class at all, and it was sickening to even be compared a woman to them.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Paisley and Aiden. At first, I thought about helping Paisley, saying that we had to go do something for Snow Queen, but I decided against it. They were beyond help now. Aiden and her had issues to work out that they should do before the baby comes. Poor kid, they would have issues that no one could help them from.

An all too familiar voice entered my mind as I looked back at my cup. Looking up, I shook my head and smiled at Silas. "I'm not surprised you escaped the infirmary, I'm more surprised that you are here." Sure, I had figured he'd run from the infirmary as soon as the nurse turned her back, but I didn't think he'd show up here of all places.

I stood up to be semi-level with him, and crossed my arms over my chest. More to hide the revealing parts, then in anger. "So what are you doing here?" I tried not to look over him, but I had to note that he looked pretty damn good.

I'm surprised I'm here as well." I tell her honestly. But the fact that she wasn't surprised that I had escaped worried me. What did she think of me as? A delinquent? Criminal? I couldn't focus on that right now. What I only noticed is how pretty she looked. You know, if she took the anger off of her expression. I sit down in the chair next to hers after I pull her chair open first.

"Well, I'm here to stare at all of the slutty disgusting girls that try to hit on desperate guys with nothing better to do," I answer sarcastically. I give her a small smile, "What about you? Do you seriously have to be here just because some people nominated you for a position that doesn't really mean anything?"

This bloody tie was once again tightening up my throat and it hurt like a bitch. I kept pulling from the collar but nothing was working. "Damn it!" I curse. "Stupid tie! Why won't you come off?"

"I didn't really see this as your scene, that's all." I sat back down in my chair, and I was happy that someone I knew was here. Well, someone that I would be able to stand talking to. Not to mention he wasn't bad to look at, well, at all. He was pretty damn attractive, and it wouldn't surprise me if he knew that already. Or if a bunch of bunch of other girls had already told him that. Hell, that was none of my business. We weren't really even friends, I just saved his life. That's it.

I laughed a little at his sarcastic response. "I guess if that appeals to you..." I let out another laugh as I just looked of there briefly. If anyone found that appealing, I would have to smack them upside the head with these God forsaken heels I happened to be wearing on my feet. He asked what exactly I was doing here, that being nominated for something couldn't possibly make me want to come here. It wasn't exactly that. Shrugging my shoulders, I had to think about it for a minute. "I guess I just wanted an excuse to dress up for once. Its nice to get all dressed up and feel pretty once an a while... or for girls it is."

Silas seemed to be struggling with his tie, and I was confused. The fact that he couldn't breathe could be very bad. Without even thinking, I leaned over to him, and began fumbling with his tie. It was hard to concentrate, because lets face it, I was attracted to him in a way that I wasn't sure I wanted to be. "Calm down, give me a moment." After a few seconds, I unleashed the tie from his neck and placed it on the table. "There, you look better without a tie anyways."

I froze for a moment, as it was awkward and such before realizing that I leaned into him, I instantly pulled back. "I'm going to get another drink." Blood was rushing to my face, and I went a little flushed around him right then. Standing up, I walked over to the drinks and grabbed one, holding it, giving looks towards him and shaking my head.

"Yeah, this isn't my scene at all. To be honest, I'd rather be back in my cabin reading a really good book." I lean back into my chair putting my hands behind my head. The lighting helped me notice the gleam in her eyes. It made me smile. I think it was the first time that I smiled in a long while.

When she laughed at my sarcasm, I laughed with her. "I like your laugh." I say sincerely. I did really like it. It was down to earth and it didn't sound like those girls on television that are too high-pitched and fake. It was huge relief. And she told me her reason for being here. I believed her, but her answer just seemed wrong for her to say. "So you believe that your excuse for looking pretty is to be at a dance? Last time I checked, you were looking pretty dashing back at the infirmary not too long ago." I smirked and winked at her.

Piper helped me remove my tie and I let out a huge breath. I felt as if I was in ecstasy the moment it was off. "Thank goodness. I felt as if I was about to die. Again." I started to chuckle but I stopped in fear that she wouldn't find it very amusing. I noticed that she was a little close, not that I mind. But would she? Luckily she broke the tension by saying she was going to get a drink. I nod as she walks away.

She started giving me looks which I returned with funny faces.

"You can read?" I asked, jokingly of course. He didn't really seem like a reader to me, especially after what he told me when he was hysterical, aka that he had killed people before and such. Still, he was probably just insane, and I was not going to think of him as a murderer, because some how, I knew he was a better person. I knew even if he was a murderer, it probably wouldn't matter to me.

Even when he complimented my laugh, I blushed and continued laughing. "Um, thank you." Now, what was Silas on? And why wasn't he sharing? Maybe he just wasn't ready to be out of the infirmary. There was no doubt in my mind, that I should take him back to the infirmary, because frankly, he was loosing his mind. "Okay, now I'm concerned for your health, do you have a fever or something?" I mean, I was not looking 'pretty dashing' at all at the infirmary. It was early in the morning, and after saving his life, I looked horrible.

After I helped Silas out of his tie, I was glad to see that he could breathe. When said he felt like he was about to die again, I couldn't help but laugh. "Looks like I'm your guardian angel then, since I keep saving your life." Once I was further away from him, I felt like I could breathe again. That was something I was quite thankful for. Of course, I was cracking up laughing at the faces he was making at me. Who knew he could be so silly?

Nyx came on stage to announce who won and such, and I was so glad that it wasn't me. I was glad that Paisley and Aiden were the winners. I knew I wasn't the only one who was in complete shock as Paisley's water broke. Oh jeez, this was definitely an interesting night indeed. Not exactly wanting to be in the place where her water broke, as the fluid would be extremely gross, I made my way over to Silas. "Now that I'm no longer restricted to this room, I'm going on a walk. You're welcomed to join me."
